Quick fix: Straw hat.

Hello all :)

So I thrifted this hat for two dollars a couple weeks ago, but the brim of the hat just felt a little bulky to me and it had black ribbon glued onto it which I didn't love. I knew I could fix it really easily (which is why I bought it anyway) and here's how it went:

This is how the hat looked originally.

I loved the big bow but didn't like the ribbon brim...

So I cut it off with my trusty sewing scissors. They're probably gonna need to get sharpened now.

Then, to keep the hat from doing this...

I put a thin line of hot glue around the whole edge of the hat.

Ta da! The whole thing took me like ten minutes and I'm so glad I bought this hat. I can't wait to wear it with vintage dresses in the summer!

Off to drama class where I will sing and act with my friends :)

Such freedom.

Hey. :)

Dance is such a beautiful expression.
I think dance is one of my favorite forms of art, along with singing and acting.  My best friend and I talk sometimes about how dance is about the most basic form of expression there is. It doesn't require materials or mediums. It doesn't even require language. It's just movement, raw emotion stemming from being.
Dance has been around for thousands of years. It's part of every culture, every ethnicity,  like a connecting thread that is humanity.
Dance can be an incredible gift. When I see a beautiful dancer, it touches a piece of me that makes me want to dance. I literally find myself twitching to move.
Dance inspires us to feel, to express, and to be open and receive other people's expression.
What an amazing piece of life God gave us in dance. :)

Mikhail Baryshnikov is one of the most brilliant ballet and modern dancers of all time.

Martha Graham was considered the Picasso of modern dance.

And me :) Not a Picasso in the least. But a girl who loves to express her Creator in many ways, including dance.

-Kierna

P.S. How do you like to express yourself?

Don't ask me why...

Hi :)
Lately I have been craving mushrooms.
Like, all the time.
I really have no idea why, and eating mushrooms doesn't stave my craving for them. When I'm grocery shopping for my family, guess what I have to keep myself from buying? Mushrooms! Last week I bought two packages of mushrooms and mushroom pasta and also a mushroom tart.

I think I may be one of these.

Off to make mushroom calzones for myself.

Happy Sunday. :)

Pretty things I bought at SAS

Hello all!

I made a SAS run the other day and brought home waaaaay more then I intended too. (If you're a girl, this is pretty much your life anyway...) SAS is a fabric outlet that sells tons of creative materials for extremely cheap. It's where I get all my fabric, but I also go there for ribbon, beads, and wacky people. :)
I didn't take  pictures of the inside of SAS because I wasn't sure if I'm allowed too... But next time I'm there I'll be sure to ask.
Here is some of my SAS haul and what I plan to use it for.

Metal zippers. I love them. They look amazing in dresses or skirts, but these particular zippers were destined to go into some pillow covers I was working on. (I'll post about those lata!) At SAS they have zippers in these huge cardboard bins and they're not even in packaging! So you just plunge your arms in and pull out the zippers you want, at the meager price of .25 cents. Yes.

This gorgeous light pink ribbon. Why did I buy so much of it? Because SAS was having a sale where you could get whole bags of it for $1.00. Bam.

This light blueish fabric. I plan to make a formal dress out of it, I love the weird shine to it that is almost reminiscent of an animal print.
It was quite funny when I bought it... I was getting it cut, and the man who was helping me asked what I was going to make with it and when I explained "a dress" and he gave me the weirdest look.
"Do you know this is outdoor fabric, ma'am?" He asked. Haha. Yes, I did know that. I like to use upholstery or outdoor fabric sometimes when I'm making dresses because the fabrics have a lot of structure and weight to them. It was funny to see the guy look at me so oddly, though. :)

Beads! SAS sometimes has them and sometimes doesn't, but whenever I see some there I snatch them up.

Happy weekend, everyone!

Last weekend.

Oh my goodness, it's been way too long since I last posted.
Life is good :) Dance classes have started up again for me (Modern Jazz and Ballet), and I'm also taking a drama class. So now I'm officially taking 3 extracurricular classes in addition to a normal high school junior's education.
Needless to say, I've been pretty busy with all that and still found time to create and go shopping. :) A post will be coming up of my purchases and latest projects.
Last weekend I spent my Saturday at my Aunt's beautiful house. We watched Lord of the Rings 1 (Extended edition! So amazing.) with my two younger cousins and had chicken tortilla soup and princess cupcakes from Fresh and Easy. (If you've never had princess cupcakes then you should! They are the best cupcakes I've ever had.) Here are some pics of me, my little brother, and my cousins in my Aunt's backyard. My Aunt has the greenest thumb I've ever seen, there's nothing she can't grow!

Yes, we are spinning on the swing in this picture. :)

Hope you all had a nice weekend/beginning of the new week. See you in awhile with a projects post!

My 10 favorite Art and Independent Films from the last five years.

Hi :)
So I don't know about you, but I love art films. I can't get enough of them. I love movies in general, but art films especially because they stick with me. I love getting new ideas and drooling over beautiful acting and clothes, but most of all I love all the innovative stories. Sigh.
Here are my top 10 favorites from the last five years.

Rating: R
This movie was lovely. It had a sortof choking depth through the whole thing that kept you from feeling happy, but in a way that wasn't unpleasant. It was extremely thought provoking and I thought about it for days afterword.

Rating: R
I loved this movie! It was hilarious and poignant. Colin Firth plays his role with such brilliance and dignity.

Rating: PG
Oh, this is such a beautiful movie. Gorgeous clothing and styling and fantastic acting. The story is breathtaking and so sad...

Rating: PG-13
This movie is so inspirational! Audrey Tautou is lovely as Coco Chanel and the clothes are to die for. And it's in french, which makes it all the more wonderful!

Rating: PG
Wow, what a beautiful story this is! The romance between Queen Victoria and Prince Albert is so amazing and I love the historical pieces of this movie.

Rating: PG-13
A fun movie. :) Zac Efron does a good ol' job with his young character Richard who "makes it big" in a production of Julius Ceasar. Claire Danes is fantastic as usual.

Rating: PG-13
Loved this movie. Carey Mulligan is so beautiful and does a great job portraying a young schoolgirl looking to grow up a little too fast. The clothes in this movie are incredible!

Rating: PG
What a sweet movie. A gentle story and good acting make this easy to watch, and I adore movies about old-time theater!

Rating: PG-13
This movie is eclectic and eye opening. Elle Fanning plays a little girl struggling with a disorder known as Tourette's syndrome.

#10. Bella

Rating: PG-13
This movie is beautiful and sad, but so full of redemption and forgiveness. It shows that even when an earth-shattering event threatens to tear up your life, it's still possible to find hope and light again.

Yay for amazing movies. :) Have a great Thursday everyone!

#4. Chalk markers  for my chalkboard! Whenever I go to Starbucks and see their fun chalk drawings I think of these. :)

#5. Cafe string lights  for my backyard. I just love these!

#6. The next Nancy Drew game. This is my guilty pleasure... Play as Nancy Drew in numerous adventures where you solve a crime and save the day! Yes. I can't wait until the next one comes out.

#7. Some quirky sunglasses like these. So fun... :)

#8. This Betsy Johnson dress. It's so cute and versatile!
